Who is Queenie?

The girl behind Queenie Crochet

Hi friend,

I’m Tracie, a fiber-loving, tea-drinking girl from the Midwest and the soul behind Queenie Crochet. I’m an avid crocheter and knitter, having learned as a child from my grandmother.

You can usually find me curled up with yarn, either a crochet hook or knitting needles, and a big cup of tea (when I’m not scrolling on Instagram!) Currently, I’m a pattern designer and hand dye luxury yarns.

When I’m not crocheting, I work as an American Sign Language interpreter and travel as much as possible. So far, I’ve lived in 4 different countries and visited 6 continents! (I’m coming for you, Antarctica!!)

Take a few minutes to look around at the cozy pictures, sign up for our emails to get crochet and knitting tips and behind-the-scenes looks, and drop me an email with what you’d like to see around here! I can’t wait to hear from you.
Thanks for stopping by.
xx,
Tracie

The Beginning

Both of my grandmothers were expert fiber artists, knitters, and crocheters. Being from an innovative generation, these 2 ladies were no exception; both talented creators. My maternal grandmother taught me to crochet when I was about 6 years old and I haven’t put a hook down since. I have such fond memories of watching her create amazing items for her family and friends, and I aspire to be as graceful and generous as she was. In honor of these precious ladies, I have the privilege to carry on the tradition of handmade, quality items.

The Process

I gain inspiration from everywhere! Photos, vintage patterns, nature, colors, at times the yarn itself provokes a concept that is begging to be created. For each completed design, there are countless attempts that did not “make the cut”. Each and every project is created stitch by stitch by hand with a yarn and hook, customized for each order. Even a simple scarf can have upwards of 5000 stitches! I’m continually amazed at how a simple skein of yarn can turn into such a practical, fun, or fabulous thing. I’m passionate about each project that comes off my hook and only offer items that I’m proud to say “I made this!”

The Philosophy

While there are lots of designers in this space, I believe there is definitely room for everyone. I’m just happy to create in my little corner and love the fact you stopped by for a look. Or, as we say around here, collaboration over competition!
